The June school newsletter and calendar has now been posted on the website.
Well I guess it’s true what they say about time flying when you’re having fun! Another school year has come and gone and it is hard to believe this will be the last newsletter for 2012-2013 and this will be the last message I write to the Pawson School community. As many of you already heard, I will be moving to Melville, SK this summer to join my husband on the farm. I have accepted a principal position at Davison Elementary School in Melville and while I am very sad to be leaving this incredible community, I am excited to begin a new adventure. Thank you to the parents, students and staff for providing me with an amazing two years here at Pawson. I have always been very proud to be your principal and truly feel that this is a great place to be. You will always hold a very special place in my heart. I would like to welcome and congratulate Ms. Jeannette Revet who has been appointed principal for the 2013-2014 school year.
We are beginning to wind down and think about all we have accomplished this year and look forward to the possibilities for next school year. As the June temperatures rise and the excitement for summer holidays builds, I remind the students, staff and parents that our top priority is learning and the in-school learning does not end until the last day of classes on June 26th. Having said this, I also believe that it is beneficial for the staff and students to enjoy some leisure time celebrating a year of hard work. The staff has planned end-of-year celebrations on the afternoons of June 24th & 25th for the grade 1-8s that includes bowling at Glencairn Bowling Alley and a movie at the Golden Mile. The Kindergartens will be going to Gymnastic Adventures on June 24th. Letters will be coming home on Monday regarding these events and are also available for download on the website. School as usual will be the expectation until the end of June (with the exception of some curricular field trips, a couple of track meets and a play day that meet the outcomes for Science and Physical Education).
As with every school year there will be staff changes at Ruth Pawson. Please have a look at the newsletter to see to whom we are saying Farewell. The staffing component at Ruth Pawson has not been completely finalized; therefore, a staff list along with classrooms will be posted on the school website by the end of June. Your child will learn who their teacher is for the 2013-2014 school year when they return on September 3rd at 8:53 a.m.
Please make note that the start and dismissal times are changing for Regina Public Elementary schools for the 2013-2014 school year. School will begin at 8:53 a.m. and dismissal will be at 3:37 p.m. The lunch hour will remain the same from 11:45-12:45 p.m. and recess will be at 10:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.
I would like to extend a great big THANK YOU to the 2012-2013 Ruth Pawson SCC: Glenna Kuntz (Chair), Jamie Wolf (Vice Chair), Mike Spicer (Treasurer), Heidi Walters (Secretary), Karen Bryant/Tammy Gaertner (Hot Lunches), Kelsey Wolf, Michelle Ring, Carmela Wall, Brittney Pidmen, Craig Fleming (Members at Large) and Mrs. Ball/Mrs. McMartin (appointed teacher representatives). It has been a great year full of fun events for the community, successful fundraisers and resources provided to the school. Elections for the 2013-2014 RPSCC will take place on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 6:30 in the School Library. Vacant positions include: Chair, Secretary and members at large. Everyone is welcome to attend this meeting. Free child care is provided.
Finally, if you are planning on moving over the summer break and your child will not be attending Ruth Pawson school in the fall, please let the office know as soon as possible as this helps us with class lists for next year.
In closing, on behalf of the Ruth Pawson staff I would like to thank the parents and community for your support this year. We wish everyone a relaxing and fun summer and we’ll see you back here on Tuesday, September 3rd at 8:53 a.m.
With this warm weather students are reminded to adhere to our school dress code. The following clothing items are not appropriate for school:
1. Tank tops with spaghetti straps
2. Tops that expose the stomach.
3. Short shorts/skirts (hem of shorts/skirts must touch your fingers when hands are at your side)
4. T-shirts with inappropriate messages/images
5. Flip flops/sandals are not to be worn during gym class. For student safety, students are required to wear gym runners.
Thank you for your cooperation!
The weather outside today makes it impossible to believe we only have two months of school left before summer holidays. As we anticipate the coming of summer and the many fun activities that come along with the end of a school year, it is important that we continue to encourage our students to focus on academics and hard work. Our number one goal here at Ruth Pawson is to ensure that all students are learning at high rates of achievement and this will remain our top priority right up until the last day of classes. Please continue to check your child’s agenda and the school website for important information about school and classroom assessments as well as the many activities that have been scheduled.
Kindergarten registrations have been flooding in! We are very pleased with the number of students registering for the 2013-2014 school year. If you know of any children who will be 5 years old by December 30th (born in 2008) please encourage them to get their Kindergarten registration in to the office if they haven’t already done so. Our Kindergarten Orientation will take place on Friday, May 24th at 2:30 p.m. here at the school. Invitations will be sent out to the families of those children already registered.
Thank you to Mrs. Ruggieri for working with our grade 1-8 students to prepare for the Celebrating the Arts evening that took place on April 23rd. It was a lovely evening of performances as our students showcased the four strands of Arts Education: Music, Dance, Drama and Visual Art.
Thank you to the Pawson SCC who have continued to work hard at making Pawson a great place to be! We are grateful for the three additional data projectors that were purchased for classrooms in order to ensure that all students have greater access to technology. We anticipate all classrooms in grades 1-8 will have a data projector for their classroom by next school year. Wow! We truly appreciate all that you do. If you would like to attend our next SCC meeting, it is taking place on Tuesday, June 11th at 6:30 p.m. in the school Resource Center. There is NO MEETING in May. Free child care is provided.
The May school newsletter and calendar have now been uploaded to our school website. You can find it under School Newsletter at ruthpawson.rbe.sk.ca. Also, don’t forget to follow us on Twitter @pawsonschool

Our spring presentation, "Celebrating the Arts" will take place on Tuesday, April 23rd starting at 6:30 in the Ruth Pawson Gymnasium.
The Ministry of Education Saskatchewan Curriculum Document recognizes four strands in Arts Education: Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Art. Students are involved in experiences throughout the year that meet the learning outcomes in these four areas. Often the work done by children is worthy of sharing thus, our Celebrating the Arts evening!
I would like you to encourage your children to get involved. A presentation is only as successful as the level of participation and energy that the children put into it. The various Arts Education strands will be showcased at different grade levels from grade 1 to 8 on this evening and students have been asked to participate. I know that you will be entertained with our program, and I hope to see many of your children involved.
An invitation was sent home today with the youngest or only of each family. Please return the bottom portion of this invitation for your family so we know how many refreshments to prepare. You can also download the invitation in the document library on our school website: ruthpawson.rbe.sk.ca
Thank you to East Side Marios for sponsoring this event!
The Grade 8 class will be holding a Toonie Raffle in order to raise funds for the Grade 8 Farewell.
