Principal's Message-December 2012

It seems like yesterday we arrived for the first day of school and already we are preparing for December. November has been a very busy but productive and positive month.

Thank you to all of the parents who took the time to go through their child`s report card and celebrate their successes and support their child in the areas they need to continue to work on. We look forward to discussing your child’s progress at our 3 Way Goal-Setting Conferences on Thursday, December 6th.

Mrs. Ruggieri and the rest of the staff have begun to plan for our Holiday Concert taking place on Monday, December 17th. There will be two performances in the school gymnasium at 1:00 and 7:00 p.m. The MORNING kindergartens will NOT be performing at the 1:00 performance. Fire regulations only allow for a maximum of 300 people in our gymnasium when the stage is set up. Therefore, if you have family members who are able to attend the 1:00 performance rather than the 7:00 performance that is greatly appreciated. We will not be able to put out more chairs for the evening performance or allow people to stand along the walls where there is a fire escape pathway. In order to ensure everyone’s comfort and enjoyment we ask that families please consider the number of people attending the evening performance. The doors will not open until 6:30 p.m.

The next few weeks will be busy with many wonderful activities as we enter the holiday season. On behalf of the staff at Ruth Pawson School I would like to wish you the happiest of holidays and all the best in the New Year! Relax, enjoy some time with family and friends and we will see you in 2013.

Principal's Message-November 2012

I can’t believe that November is here and we are nearing the end of our first term! The staff and students having been working diligently in their classrooms and their accomplishments will be evident when the report cards go home on Friday, November 30th. You will have an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress in Term 1 and goals for Term 2 at 3-Way Conferences on December 6th (Kindergarten December 5th & 6th). A conference time will be sent home in your child’s report card.

This month will be “No Excuses November”. The students were introduced to this philosophy at the beginning of the school year through the book No Excuses, How What You Say Can Get in the Way by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer and Kristina Tracy. This book illustrates how often we use excuses and how excuses stop us from reaching our goals, so that we can start to change these habits and be free from self-limiting thoughts. During the month of November classes will be asked to develop No Excuses Pledges and identify excuses in order to turn them into positive action. I hope you will also support this philosophy at home.

Ruth Pawson’s Remembrance Day program will be held on Thursday, November 8th at 11:00 a.m. in the school’s gymnasium. All community members are welcome to attend. Thank you to the numerous staff members for planning this service and to the students who will be making presentations.

Our Learning Improvement Plan has been developed and will be shared with the SCC at our next meeting on Tuesday, November 13th at 6:30. If you are interested in learning about our goals for Literacy and Numeracy achievement, as well as Equitable Opportunities for All, please come out to our meeting or call me to set up an appointment.

We have had a great first term! Thank you for your input and continued support.
