Principal's Message-November 2012

I can’t believe that November is here and we are nearing the end of our first term! The staff and students having been working diligently in their classrooms and their accomplishments will be evident when the report cards go home on Friday, November 30th. You will have an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress in Term 1 and goals for Term 2 at 3-Way Conferences on December 6th (Kindergarten December 5th & 6th). A conference time will be sent home in your child’s report card.

This month will be “No Excuses November”. The students were introduced to this philosophy at the beginning of the school year through the book No Excuses, How What You Say Can Get in the Way by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer and Kristina Tracy. This book illustrates how often we use excuses and how excuses stop us from reaching our goals, so that we can start to change these habits and be free from self-limiting thoughts. During the month of November classes will be asked to develop No Excuses Pledges and identify excuses in order to turn them into positive action. I hope you will also support this philosophy at home.

Ruth Pawson’s Remembrance Day program will be held on Thursday, November 8th at 11:00 a.m. in the school’s gymnasium. All community members are welcome to attend. Thank you to the numerous staff members for planning this service and to the students who will be making presentations.

Our Learning Improvement Plan has been developed and will be shared with the SCC at our next meeting on Tuesday, November 13th at 6:30. If you are interested in learning about our goals for Literacy and Numeracy achievement, as well as Equitable Opportunities for All, please come out to our meeting or call me to set up an appointment.

We have had a great first term! Thank you for your input and continued support.

Happy Halloween

Thank you to the Ruth Pawson SRC who have planned some fun activities for us tomorrow.

The K-5 students will be participating in a Halloween Fun House and the 6-8 students will be enjoying a movie afternoon.

Remember to wear orange and black and save your costumes for Trick or Treating tomorrow night.

Parents, please review Halloween Safety Tips with your children before going out.

Have fun and be safe!

School Calendar

Remember to check the School Calendar for a look ahead to Important Dates!

School Photos

School Photos will be taken on Thursday, October 11th all day.

We cannot provide specific times as to when your child's photo will be taken so please send them to school in the morning prepared for school pictures.

Retakes will be on November 6th.

Principal's Message-October 2012

We are a month into the school year and I see everyone is settling into a routine. The month of September has been quite busy! I would like to thank all of the families who were able to attend the Back to School BBQ. We had a great turnout. Thank you to the staff and Big Bob’s BBQ for serving up hotdogs, hamburgers, drinks and treats and to Mother Nature for providing us such a beautiful evening.

There are many Leadership activities up and running at Ruth Pawson School: Safety Patrol, Cross-Country running, Volleyball and SRC. It is wonderful to see so many Pawson Panthers want to come to school and get involved in leadership activities. Getting involved in school activities helps students develop their sense of Belonging, Mastery, Generosity and Independence. You can find our schedules here on the website under Extra Curricular Activities.

As always I encourage parents to get involved in their child’s education. We will be sending home Goal Setting forms on Thursday, October 4th. This is an excellent opportunity to sit down with your child and discuss their plan for school success. Please sign and return this form to your child’s homeroom teacher on October 12th.

A lot of important information is posted here on our school website. I encourage you to bookmark this website and check it regularly for updates. You will notice our School Calendar can also be found on the website.  We are also on Twitter. Follow us @pawsonschool.

I encourage you to keep in close contact with your child’s teachers and if you have any questions or concerns please call us to set up an appointment.

Terry Fox Walk/Run

Ruth Pawson School is helping to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation.  For every $1.00 your child brings they will get a shoe to put their name on and post in the hallway as we walk to help cure cancer.

Our Terry Fox Walk/Run will be held this Thursday, September 27 at 12:50pm.  If Terry could do it, so can we!

Spelling Begins

Our  class has begun our spelling program  this year.  Students will get their lists on Fridays and we will do word work activities throughout the week and then have our tests on Thursdays.  Our test for lesson 1, is this Thursday.  Please help your child to study their words.
